The 25th annual ArtWalk is finally here! This year, Cynthia will have paintings of her kisses available as well as new pieces from her modern farm collection. In her new collection, Colis gives larger-than-life farm animals a modern twist. They gaze out of their canvases with different expressions of content. One animal with a major presence in Cynthia's modern farm collection is the cow. In some cultures, the cow is a sacred symbol representing fertility, nourishment, and motherhood. For Colis, her cows also represent contentment, happiness, and bliss. They encourage her maxim that wherever fate takes her, she will endeavor to be satisfied. What pastoral secrets of life do these revered animals have to share with you? Find out this weekend in the streets of Little Italy at San Diego's 25th annual ArtWalk on April 25th and 26th from noon to 6:00 p.m. Cynthia will be in booths 302 and 303 at Cedar Street between India and Kettner.

www.missionfederalartwalk.org

WHY DID THEY TAKE ART OUT OF SCHOOLS?

i am not sure why they took art classes out of schools. i understand that we are in difficult economic times, but ART! art is as important as math, science, history, sports, etc. it is a way for children to express themselves. learning how to healthily express can lead to a very successful life. shouldn’t that be significant?

art is not just play; it is a little science and a little psychology. we learn how to mix primary colors to get secondary colors. we learn how to use our imaginations and our feelings. we learn that there are no mistakes, that the mistakes can be a part of our art. isn’t that a lesson in life?

i am not an art teacher, but i am an artist. i know that when i am in my studio, nothing else matters. it allows me to be calm, to let go. the pain or hurt that i am dealing with at that moment in my life may still be there when i leave my studio, but while i am in my studio painting, the pain and hurt goes away.

i am a part of a program called ArtReach. ArtReach is a group of artists who are dedicated to visiting schools in San Diego to allow young students to create, to forget hurt and pain, and to express.

i was recently at Washington Elementary School, and these young students, these little artists, were so receptive to creating. before creating, some paused for a moment to think about what they wanted to express. others went full-speed ahead with no thoughts, the paper was just a place for them to let go. i was so inspired by their work.

at the end of the session, a little voice asked if ArtReach and i were coming back to school next Monday. i was lost for words. my heart broke for the little voice.

a gallery of the little artists’ work is available above, enjoy and be inspired. To learn more about ArtReach, click here.
